Hilda Hiary

Many people and old philosophers talked about the philosophy of the circle.. Since I was a kid and during my many travels with my parents.. Even here at home.. I used to watch always the ground more than the sky.. Watching the dots holes and lines on the sands and rocks and my favorite play was with the ants!! Watching them always walking together and I used to touch them and play with them in my hands.. It was a joy for me to see all these small rounding houses they built in the sand.. Gallery Hiary >>>

THE EAST, THE WEST AND THE REST OF US: ARTS PRACTICE ON THE BORDER OF THE CENTER

Proposed by Barthosa Nkurumeh, University of Oklahoma, Norman
Presentation Formats: Seminal paper presentation, multimedia presentation, mini-workshop, demonstration, distribution of exemplars, arts sites tour, or relevant other experiential mode. The East, the West and the Rest of US: Arts Practice on the Border of the Center is a multi-disciplinary platform; it proceeds from the notion that the arts are interrelated. The Roundtable seeks Key Speakers, Anchor Presenters, and Moderator/Discussant from the various areas of the arts such as the visual arts, music, and the performing arts. Essentially, the roundtable will explore the convergence between E/Im/Migration and the arts practice within the complexities of the turn of the 21st century. Accordingly, full seminal papers, short papers and in-depth conversations are invited from Turks living abroad, immigrants in Turkey, and emigrants from elsewhere living in another lands. The presentations may be by scholars, educators, disciplinary specialists, policy makers, social analysts, and informed activists worldwide, but need to about writings about the arts, art studio, arts teaching, connoisseurship, curatorial, and arts administrative practice. Yes, the platform seeks to bring together emigrant/immigrant arts professionals in Turkey, the West, and elsewhere to dialogue on the useful skills, emerging knowledge, and disciplinary approaches essential to adjusting to the New World, as a way of understanding our collective existence.

Taking Place...

All places have an identity. And this identity is often shaped by the repeated everyday actions that take place there – and the ownership, fellowship, and sense of belonging they create. Everyday activities, however mundane or peculiar, can even conquer a place. That also holds true in the Middle East in spite of political upheaval and conflicts. What activities and what issues of ownership and belonging apply in the Middle East? What customs, habits, and movements give places in the Middle East their identity? That is what Taking Place… aims to show. Find more >>> Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall Nyhavn 2 DK-1051 Copenhagen K Read more >>>

BIDOUN

BIDOUN was created as a platform for ideas and an open forum for exchange, dialogue and opinions about arts and culture from the Middle East. BIDOUN's primary goal is to bring together cultural expressions from a vast and nuanced region. BIDOUN also addresses some of the widespread misconceptions about the region and its Diaspora by inciting readers to take a fresh look at the Middle East and its peoples, too often presented as one-dimensional or stagnant. Petrie's Palestinian Collection

This unique exhibition celebrates the diversity of ancient Palestine. It also illustrates the deep, rich heritage of a region repeatedly portrayed in today’s media as a place of conflict and suffering. The exhibition highlights the extraordinary finds made by the archaeologist Sir Flinders Petrie, who was Professor of Egyptology at UCL and spent many years working in the area around modern Gaza in the 1920s and 1930s.
